The study found that, in 2014, 79% of the radar speed signs sold in Colorado were purchased by municipalities. Often local governments purchase these signs for use in school zones and arterial streets. Municipal police departments have invested in them, as well, for traffic studies and temporary traffic calming on problem roads.
City and County purchases, often viewed as industry trendsetters, establish standards and protocols for purchases by other customer categories. Not surprisingly, the Colorado DOT also opted for driver feedback signs as a primary tool to address traffic calming issues.
