MARIETTA, Ga., September 11, 2019—The city of Fairlawn, Ohio is making streets safer with Radarsign, the manufacturer of the world’s first armored driver feedback sign. According to Fairlawn Police Chief Donald Duman, the city is using the Radarsign TC-400 along with Radarsign’s StreetSmart software. The combo, he shared, tells motorists how fast they are going and “it also collects data for us, such as the number of vehicles, the number of speeders, average speeds. It can essentially tell us if we have a problem area while also letting people know if they need to slow down.”
The Radarsign TC-400 automatically reminds drivers to slow down, freeing officers to focus on higher priority activities. The data insights from StreetSmart will identify problem areas, allowing officers to be stationed during time periods when speeders are most active.
The law enforcement agency considered buying a speed trailer. “The speed sign essentially takes the place of the smart trailers that would do basically the same thing, but the trailers became very expensive,” Duman said. “They were in the area of $15,000 to $18,000 per trailer.” At a fraction of the size, the TC-400 is significantly more portable and considerably more affordable.
